Hair Removal

The use of lasers is not new to the cosmetic industry, it has been in use for years in dealing with facial and leg veins, age spots and smoothing fine lines on the face. Laser energy is transformed into heat, disabling the follicle while leaving the surrounding area unaffected. Methods in the past have included electrolysis, but that procedure was limited in its treatment, because it meant treating each individual hair independently, which was time consuming, not to mention ended up being quite costly.

With laser hair removal being non-invasive, it is easy to treat delicate skin in larger areas without disruption to the structure of the outer layer of skin. Technicians consult with you about the different types of lasers, and what process may be best for you. It is important to remember that the laser can only destroy hair in its active growth phase, called the anagen phase. Up to 85% of our hair is in this phase at any given time and the positive aspect to that is that during this phase, our hair has an abundance of melanin and the hair follicle is easily targeted.

Aesthetic Laser Treatments

Today's advanced laser technology allows us to safely, easily, and effectively treat many benign skin lesions painlessly, on an out-patient basis. The four main types of lasers used to treat various skin conditions are: argon, pulsed-dye, neodymium:YAG and carbon dioxide.

How does a laser work?

The word LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Medical lasers use an intense beam of light to gently remove unwanted, damaged, or diseased cells without harming the surrounding healthy cells. The laser's energy may be delivered as a continuous wave of light or in pulses, depending on the treatment and the type of laser used.

Laser ResurfacingAesthetic Advantage

In dermatology, lasers adds another dimension for the treatment of skin diseases. Laser resurfacing can improve cosmetic flaws, such as wrinkles, scars, and sun damage, and is the latest scientific breakthrough in skin rejuvenation. Lasers (short for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) work by producing an intense beam of light that travels in one direction. This beam can gently ablate skin tissue to improve wrinkles, scars or blemishes. In addition, lasers can also be used to destroy visible blood vessels or to cut skin tissue. Using a laser hand piece, undesired skin cells and wrinkles disappear and are replaced by fresh skin cells. One of the laser's most significant advantages over traditional techniques for skin resurfacing is that treatment is relatively bloodless. This procedure also offers increased degree of precision and safety in treating delicate areas.

Are laser treatments safe?

Lasers have been used successfully in hundreds of thousands of treatments. Laser treatments performed properly, by a trained physician, are safe and effective. There are many benefits to laser surgery including little if any pain, no needles for most patients, less bruising and swelling and once removed, lesions do not return.

What skin conditions can lasers treat?

Skin conditions treated with lasers include: aging and sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, sagging skin, tattoos, moles, warts, skin tags, stretch marks, acne and hypertrophic scars.

Dermal FillersAesthetic Advantage

As our skin ages, the dermis gradually loses its major constituents: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Collagen acts as the major support protein for our skin; elastin allows our skin to stay firm and resist wrinkles; hyaluronic acid helps to trap water and add volume and shape to our skin.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are being used more and more to help reverse the changes associated with aging. Because the goal is to return the dermis to its original youthful state, dermal fillers can give a more natural appearance than surgical face lifts. Dermal fillers are being used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, raise scar depressions, enhance lips, and replace soft-tissue volume loss.
