A MESSAGE FROM THE OWNERS

To begin, we are both moms of gymnasts. We understand firsthand how important it is to have a clean, safe and positive environment with a well-trained coaching staff to help our children succeed. Open communication between the staff and families is a must. In addition to these necessities, it is also important for the gymnast's demanding schedule to be as minimally disruptive to the family routine as possible. How wonderful it would be if mom could workout or work on the computer while the siblings play safely or take a class of their own. Healthy food and drink would complete the experience. Well, our goal is to make this happen. We’ve been there, done that, and now we know what needs to change!

Coaches

COLLEEN LANDA
West Coast Elite Gymnastics is fortunate to have Colleen Landa as our program director and head coach. Colleen has over 12 years of experience coaching gymnastics to children of all ages and skill levels. Among her many accomplishments, Colleen has coached numerous State (in both Massachusetts and California ) and Regional Champions, as well as qualifying athletes to Nationals. As recently as 2005, Colleen coached 5 State Champions on Balance Beam, her signature event!
Colleen is remarkably proficient at recognizing and evaluating talent and potential, working with athletes to draw their maximum effort, and helping gymnasts reach their maximum potential while building a strong bond of trust between coach and athlete. Nowhere is this more evident than in her work in the TOPs program, in which she has trained athletes for over 11 years. In fact, in 2005 only one gym in the entire nation qualified more 9 year olds for national testing than Colleen! While the other gym had more qualifiers, it was not at a higher success rate as Colleen qualified 100% of her athletes that year! In 2006, over 3,500 gymnasts vied for a spot on the TOPs National Team. Under Colleen's close tutelage, WCEG is proud to host a member of TOPs National B Team; a distinguished honor that places her among the top fifty 9 year-olds in the nation! Colleen has also worked closely with coaches on the national staff and believes in constantly learning her craft in order to place her athletes on their path to success!
Colleen's credentials and certifications include: USAG Pro member, USAG safety certified, USAG PDP 1 & 2, USAG skill evaluator, 1st Aid and CPR certified. Colleen is also the USAG TOP State Manager for 2007.
With Colleen leading the way, we are confident WCEG will be riding high…make sure you catch our wave!

Adam graduated from California State University in 2006 with a degree in Psychology, and he is currently attending Alliant International University for a doctorate in Clinical Health Psychology.

GYM PHILOSOPHY

The principle goal of West Coast Elite Gymnastics is to teach the skill of gymnastics to young people. Our broader scope, however, is promotion of lifetime fitness for people of all ages through a variety of programs.
The process of learning gymnastics involves adding increasingly complicated movements in sequence. From a purely physical perspective the young gymnast learns body awareness, spatial orientation, and rhythmic timing. Through this training, the body is strengthened and made flexible. Parallel with this are developments of the mind (receptivity to instruction and judgment) and character (perseverance, self-confidence, optimism, and empathy) that give the training its comprehensive aspect. Most important, it is fun. When the training is done along with other gymnasts, then a social element is added that results in a high degree of individual maturation in the larger group context. This spirited fun is something the kids look forward to and causes them to develop strong friendships within the gym.
It is the intent of West Coast Elite Gymnastics to foster this process through experienced and disciplined coaching in a socially inclusive and sympathetic gymnasium environment. The responsibility of our leadership is to have our gymnasts and their families feel comfortable in their participation here.
For some gymnasts, strenuous and competitive athletics are a goal. Not all, however, have Olympic abilities or aspirations. Whether you and your child are considering team or recreational gymnastics, we feel the strong experience we offer will leave the pathway open. For all young gymnasts the journey will be exciting and fun and the benefits of training and participation will soon be obvious.
Other fitness programs that cater to different ages and/or specialty needs will be introduced over time in keeping with our mission philosophy of lifetime fitness. We hope to engage a broad cross section of people with programs that promote physical and social health. We feel the location and layout of the facility, the elite caliber of equipment and coaching, and the managerial directions given to service excellence, quality programming, and social inclusion will make West Coast Elite Gymnastics a new model of the highest standard.
