YouthInkwell: A Center for Writing, LLC

YouthInkwell's Writing Center offers students in grades 3-12 the opportunity to enhance their writing skills through creative analytical writing courses. YouthInkwell shows students that writing is a powerful tool that can implement positive change in the world. To this end, the subject matter of analytical writing classes revolves around social issues and issues of concern to the community.

About Us

YouthInkwell: A Center for Writing, LLC opened its doors in Southern California in the summer of 2005.   Offering various creative and analytical writing courses to students in Grades 3-12, YouthInkwell focuses not only on improving students' writing skills, but also on giving students a sense of purpose for their work.  It is the mission of YouthInkwell to show students that writing is a powerful tool that can implement positive change in the world.   By having current social issues as the core curriculum of its courses, YouthInkwell hopes that it will develop a sense of passion in students that will lead them to be effective leaders that not only care about themselves, but care about the world around them.

Private lessons are also available and are designed by families and teachers to meet the student's needs.

Jennifer Sarja has been teaching writing in Southern California for more than nine years. A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Jennifer began her formal writing education at Middlebury College, famous for its Breadloaf School of Writing. Jennifer went on to earn a joint undergraduate degree in Writing and Medieval History at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. In 1996, Jennifer completed her Master's Degree in Writing at NYU and moved from New York to Los Angeles to await her film adaptation of Robert Cormier's The Bumblebee Flies Anyway, which starred Elijah Wood, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Janeane Garafalo.

Through her guidance, Jennifer's students have gone on to receive acceptance letters from some of the top schools in the country: Brown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, UC Berkeley, UCLA, University of Southern California, Boston University (7-year medical program), Duke University, University of Chicago, and Johns Hopkins University, where one of her students is now TRIPLE-majoring in Economics, Political Science, and International Relations.

Besides group courses, YouthInkwell Writing Studio also offers one-on-one private tutoring to get you through those tough English projects and develop your close reading skills. Private lessons are designed by families and teachers to meet the student's needs.
